講義上明明說Those who = People who 答案是B 位什麼不能選C?

如果是單選題, 我可以肯定的指出命題者凸槌
這題(B)Those 與(C)People都是正解.
版主的質疑有理!

還有選D好像意義也通

正解是(A)both

(B)all只適用於三項以上, 不適用本句.
如果sides改成side，(C)和(D)就都是正解,
而這樣(A)both就不能選了.

顧名思義, both是兩者, each是每一個, 要搭配的單複數名詞與動詞不同.

您說得對, people前加the是可以的
但不影響"不加the"的正確性, 因為people有限定子句"who respect others"修飾它, 已有指示功能.
您可以搜尋"People who"而得七億多例, 照您的想法它們都應加上the, 而其實不必.

格言常有意思相同的不同版本, 其中縱有較「主流」者, 但命題者不可把其他版本列為錯誤選項. 例如下面各句皆正確:

所以選答案的時候通常會用固定的用法

我不同意Louis大師說的要在"people"或"who"前面加"the"，因為句中沒有特別指定的對象，所以直接陳述即可，但若把"who"變成"that"則會更暢順.
"People that respect others will be respected by others."
"One that respects others will be respected by others."

另外"There are trees on either side"雖然在文法上沒錯誤，但在表達上卻很奇怪，“小河的任何一邊有樹”？？相信通常您也不會這麼說吧。

There are trees on one side but none on the other side.

Louis大師，看到你的玫瑰例子後，我大概有點明白了。在"There are trees on either side of the river"中，"either"一詞應與"each"意思相等，所以的確是行得通的。感謝指教。

因為本句的主詞受到限定性質的形容詞子句who...加以修飾，主詞如果是複數的普通名詞應加上the才對，而people沒有the在前，所以不能選，但those是指示代名詞，本身有限定的意思，所以才是本題正確的答案。

both是［兩者］的意思，each是［每一個］的意思，所以用來修飾名詞時，後面的數量是不同的。both跟雙數，each跟單數。

people無冠詞,單獨使用時,泛指世上的人們.如:People say that ... = They say that ... = It is said that ...
如果是特定的人們時,會加上冠詞the或限定詞,如the people here, the people of England, the English people...

但There are trees on either side of the river.應可成立.
