am 只用於“我”
is 用於“他/她”或單數名詞
are 用於“你”以及複數名詞

我媽媽（媽媽是單數所以用is）
我們的爸爸（father為單數名詞，所以用is）
你的朋友（在這裡friend是單數，所以用is）
你的朋友們（在這裡friends是複數所以用are）
他們的弟弟/哥哥（brother在這裡是單數所以用are）
