At the first sign of trouble during the Occupy Melbourne protests, the Australia riot police just went straight in a forcibly removed them all, dragging some of them across the ground for a considerable period of time if they resisted and hitting them with batons.
In contrast, during the London riots in August and the Occupy London protests currently on going, the police are scared to do anything, and in many cases its the police who are running away from the protesters.
No wonder so many British people are moving to Australia, the once "great" Britain has become a nation of quivering sissies, scared to take any decisive action against civil unrest.
Why are Australian riot police tougher than British riot police?

Australians have not yet been driven to desperation and anger so much to threaten police. And they are still obedient of the government which tells them that they only have a right to protest peacefully. I think if the rental prices go up another 20% next year, more people here might start bucking up against the "protest peacefully" conditioning.

English Tough Guy, for a start, what I have seen of Australian Police, primarily in Sydney, is that they are street wise. Unlike what happen there in England, and here in Vancouver after the Stanley Cup. The Australians seem to be into preventative, nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand.
There is also a lot of intelligence reporting that goes into the riot squads, it seems the Australians, no which of the protesters to target.
As for Royal Tours, Quebec are not great fans of the Monarchy, when William and Kate were here, they were given breathing space, but the amount of secret service was unbelievable. Like Australia, we would hate to be plasted all over the global media is something happen to them
