幾時用to幾時用for?
其實，要配合個動詞和句子的含意

I recommend this book to my friend. (correct)
I recommend this book for my friend. (incorrect)

recommend這動詞與另一動詞give一樣，可以同時有直接和間接受詞，這時必須用to :

e.g. I give him this book. I give this book to my friend.
I recommend him this book. I recommend this book to my friend.

"for" 可以使用，但意義是不同的:

e.g. (1) I recommend you for the post of the manager. (sb for sth)
(2) I recommend this brand of lotion for your skin. (sth for sth)

I give him this book.
如果你想改寫以上句子，用一個介詞去連接動詞"give" 的間接受詞(indirect object) "him"，那麼，你必須使用介詞“to"。 I give this book to him.

"for"其中有一個用法比較容易與"to"混淆，就是解作 "為, 為了" 時 :
