Neon gas consists of discrete atoms.
However, a neon atom can also be described as a monatomic molecule. Amonatomic molecule mean that the molecule consists of one atom only.

Each hydrogen molecule (H2) is made up by the combination of 2 hydrogen atoms. It is a diatomicmolecule, which means thatthe molecule consists of two atoms.

3.
Each methane molecule (CH4) is made up by the combination of 5 atoms(1 carbon atom and 4 hydrogen atoms). It is a polyatomic molecule,which means that the molecule consists of 4 or more atoms.

這裡有兩個不同的觀點。

有一個觀點認為 a molecular is a neutral group of 2 or more atoms，所以 neon atom 不是一個 molecule。

另一個觀點認為 a molecular is a neutral group of atoms，沒有 2 or more 的限制，只含 1 個 atom 的 molecule 叫 monatomic molecule （單原子分子）。愈高班會愈認同這個觀點。

有些人會把 diatomic molecule 當作 polyatomic molecule 的一種。但當明顯知道 molecule 含有 2 atoms 的時候，diatomic molecule 一定對，polyatomic molecule 未必對。

Polyatomic molecule does not have a unique definition.

In some cases, especially when the number of atoms is unknown, a molecule consists of 2 or more atoms is known as a polyatomic molecule.

In some cases, for clearer discription, a molecule consists of 2 atoms is known as a diatomic molecule, a molecule consists of 3 atoms is known as a triatomic molecule, and a molecule consists of 4 or more atoms is known as a polyatomic molecule.

Note:
"It is a polyatomic molecule,which means that the molecule consists of 4 or more atoms"

It should be "molecule consists of 2 or more atoms".
