α and β are the roots of the equation x² + 6x - 3 = 0

Put x = α into the equation :
α² + 6α - 3 = 0
α² + 6α = 3 ...... [1]

Product of the roots :
αβ = -3
-αβ = 3 ...... [2]

[1] + [2] :
(α² + 6α) - αβ = 3 + 3
α² - αβ + 6α = 6
