Period; 18 months
Amount;$53060.4
Find the principal and the compound interest.

Ans: 1. 40 months / $48300
2. $50000/$3060.4

P = $42000
I = 4.5% (per annum)
I = $6300
n = ? years

I = P ´ R% ´ n
6300 = 42000 ´ 4.5% ´ n
n = 10/3

Period
= 10/3 years
= (10/3) ´ 12 months
= 40 months

Amount
= P + I
= $42000 + $6300
= $48300


2.
R% = 4%/2 = 2% (per half year)
n = 18/6 half years = 3 half years
A = $53060.4
P = $?

A = P ´ (1 + R%)^n
$53060.4 = P ´ (1 + 2%)^3
P = $53060.4 / (1.02)^3
Principal, P = $50000

Compound interest, I
= A - P
= $53060.4 - $50000
= $3060.4
