What can I expect from the Montgomery GI Bill?

I'm young a Veteran (29yrs) with no college education to speak of. But I want to go to college! I'm worried that I will not be able to provide for my wife and child while I'm in school. Does the GI Bill pay for books? tuition? Or do they just send a check each month? I really don't know what to expect or how much?

if you still have the old GI Bill then you get a check each month to be used for whatever you need/want. there is NO BAH payment.

if you have the Post 9/11 Bill the college gets paid tuition and fees directly. you get the $1000 book stipend/year and the BAH

No BAH with the montgomery G I Bill, you may have to work during the day and go to school at night. Sometimes it pays for books, the books can be $110.00 apiece. They give you a check to your bank when you certify online and the VA guy at the college certifies that you are attending classes.
