What is a better way to say 'so as to'?

I'm writing a report and keep using the phrase 'so as to' or 'in order to'. An example:
"The diameter was measured so as to ensure the washer would fit". I feel like there must be a better way/another way to say that so my report doesn't read too repetitive. So I was wondering if anyone could please help me find another phrase to use. Thanks so much in advance!

Maybe leave out "so as" and just say that it was accurately measured to ensure the washer would fit...

other option
:
in order that

An example:
the words "so as"are redundant. Omit them I recommend the inclusion of "that", a word oftem being omitted these days.

"The diameter was measured to ensure that the washer would fit".

is a good answer.
