Note the pattern of sentence with transitive or intransitive verb:

Subject + verb (intransitive) + adverb

eg. Tom (subject) + laughs (intransitive verb) + loudly (adverb, adverb modifies the verb).

Subject + transitive verb + receiver + adverb

eg. Penny (subject) + speaks (transitive verb) + English (receiver of verb "speaks") + fluently (adverb, adverb modifies the verb "speaks")

Sometimes the adverb can be put at the beginning of the sentence.
