CHEM 一條小小問題

magnesium ribbon 係指成個Mg metal..,
通常d問題一提及magnesium ribbon.,
我地的chemical equation係寫 magnesium 成個metal..,

e.g. magnesium (ribbon) will react with dilute hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen and salt.,
the required equation is :
Mg(s) + HCl(aq) ---> MgCl2(aq) + H2(g)


但通常我會見到metal係dull in colour.,
就係因為佢地會react with oxygen in the air to form metal oxide...
therefore, 應該當佢地係oxide

我地通常做一些chem問題(例如past paper)係assume magnesium ribbon係乾淨ge..,
冇任何oxide layer formed on its surface....
咁樣先可以做到實驗....

而o係實際上..,Mg metal is quite reactive in nature,
it will react with oxygen to form metal oxide on the surface..

I agree what you two said. Magnesium is a reactive metal, it is very easily being oxidized by the air, the oxide will form outside the strip.

Is oxide
not hydroxide

氧化 is oxide : MgO

Mg(OH)2 is base , not oxide !
