Who is your role model? Mine is someone who is only a few years older than me. He is an inventor and his name is Chan Yik-hei. He is my role model because he has shown that young people can achieve a lot by themselves.

In 2004, when he was only fourteen years old, Chan Yik-hei invented a robot that he designed and made by himself. He entered into a competition organised by the computer company Intel, and he won second prize! It was such an achievement for a young person that Chan now has a planet named after him called Chanyikhei!

When Chan was at school, he enjoyed learning new things and always asked his teachers lots of questions. He often took apart electrical appliances and toys, and taught himself a lot by putting them back together again.

Chan's father has helped his son a lot. Once, when Chan Yik-hei was not allowed to take a technology course because he was not an adult, his father took it for him and taught him everything that he had learnt.

The young inventor is now studying electronics and computer courses at a university. He has also written two books about his story and his idea for new inventions. He has already achieved a lot in his life so he must be very proud of himself!
