Do Little League teams have relief pitchers?

I'm just curious. It just seems kinda cruel for the kids if that's the case.

The Little League World Series playoffs are on TV now, and you often see a relief pitcher come in, but funny thing is the pitcher is often a good batter too, so he stays in the game and goes to another position - same with the relief pitcher - I saw one game this week where the relief pitcher was the right outfield guy!!!

They wouldnt have an era over 20 and be halfway for the period of the season until they only have been given observed as up. And in the event that they did they could be sent down and the two ideal pitchers could be sent up.

They don't have the tradition relievers a major league team has, ala, sits in the pen the whole game, and maybe gets to warm up to throw. It is usually a regular player, who is a good pitcher that will come in and finish.

Kids don't usually specialize in one thing, often your best athletes are your best players, and they usually will play in the field, and then pitch later of vice versa.

Yes but it's a position player who knows how to pitch.

Little League teams typically don't have specialized starting and relief pitchers. On your typical Little League World Series team, there will probably be half of the team that can and will pitch. Here are the reasons:

- Little League pitchers have per-game maximum pitch counts
- Little League pitchers have pitch count-based rest requirements. The more pitches thrown in a game, the more days rest the pitcher is required to have.
- Little League has a mandatory play requirement consisting of batting once and playing six defensive outs

The first two are to protect pitchers' arms. The third is to ensure all players get to play.

Because of these regulations, pitchers are removed when they reach certain pitch counts, either because they aren't allowed to pitch any more, or they manager wants to "save" the pitcher for an upcoming game.

no, because a pitcher in little league is only allowed a certain amount of pitches, so if he pitches 1 day for too many pitches, he cant start the next game, but he can relieve as long as he doesnt go over the pitch limit. Some teams have people who usually relieve but start sometimes too.

Yes, absolutely. My son was used as a 11 and 12 year old relief pitcher. When the starter got tired or hit his pitch count my boy would come in and finish the game or maybe just the inning.

Sometime he would be brought in to throw one pitch, if -- say -- the bases were loaded and there was two outs, and the starter couldn't get that last out, my boy would be brought in to get that last out. Often he would get an easy ground out to short to stop the bleeding.

Also, since my boy was a finesse pitcher (accurate but slow) the timing of the batters would be off after facing our fastball pitcher. It would really frustrate them. It was funny. "This kid's got NUTHIN'" they would say, and then strike out swinging. It would take them once or twice throught the batting order to adjust, but by then GAME OVER.

No. They play 6 or 7 innings, they wouldnt need one. Plus I'm pretty sure everyone has to play a certain amount each game. Something like 2 innings and 1 at bat every game.
