Concerning Mathematics, my students attend / attended private tutorials and I have received lots of comments from them about the private tutors as mentioned. Let me analyze for you:
1) Dick Hui: A nice person, but his own Maths. background in fair only. Have you seen his handouts having such phrases "若要成功 必先自宮"? Can you accept?
2) Wilson Liu: A lot of Gags, plus Dirty Words, in lessons. My students withdrew 1 month and could not tolerate his time "killing" skills. Actually his handouts contain all HKCEE questions which you can download elsewhere. Why do you need to attend lessons but without return?
3) Koopa Poo: His background is attractive, a PhD from Washington but his teaching quality is ... I have read his Pure Maths. handouts, simple mistakes appeared. I asked my student to challenge him whether there are mistakes, and his replies were all wrong! You can check last year, how many A - C students took photos with him?
No idea on David Chiu, but I want to discuss 3 others.
4) W.L. Lee is deserved to attend if you could tolerate the lessons being "boring" without Gags. It sounds to be he is a relative "pure" tutor who really has background to support.
5) Similar case for Oscar Tam. He is MPhil from HKUST and his Pure Maths. exercise, written with Prof. Kwok Yue Kuen, was a hot reference book in later 90s. His biggest problem now is, his teaching speed is slow and the content do not match with normal school curriculum. When most schools are teaching Circles, he may talk about Log., etc.
6) Dr. Chan joins Beacon from HKBU where he was the Senior Lecturer. No doubt on his ability, but you need to tolerate his presentation! His voice is very similar to a "cow" in my opinion! If you could accept his lessons very similar to normal lessons, surely you can learn from him.
7) Due to limited space I cannot share more. Among the others, actually I will select Siu Yuen, Joseph Li, Frenda So and Daniel Yu if you are result oriented.
Hope I can help you in selection of tutors.
