Leiby Kletzky's Incident, not a good excuse for children to carry cell phone?

I really feel so sorry for the child's parents. Many people believe that children should carry a cellphone for safety reasons, and I think they're over-reacted. The child encountered a wrong person at a wrong place and at a wrong time. I and many others went to school in the old days without a lot things that the new generations now have. The more we give to our children, the more dependent they will be and they will not be able to learn how to think and solve problem but just relying this and that as solution.

I strongly disagree. You went without a lot of things my generation, and the generation below mine, have, but we need them.... As people say, times change, and there are a lot of dangerous people around...

I personally was nearly kidnapped... A guy tried to get me into his car.

The next day i got a cell phone.

The truth is, there is no "one solution" to any problem, and cell phones do not necessarily protect someone from monsters like Levy Aron, may his name be cursed.

But if someone is coming towards a child with the intent to hurt them, the child can call someone just to say hello, or even tell them they're afraid! If the person sees the child is in constant contact with someone, supposedly a competent adult, they wouldn't try to hurt that child.

I agree with you that children shouldnt have cell phones. What good is a cell phone going to do if a stranger tries to attack a child? What is the child supposed to call home and scream for help? That person can easily take the childs phone away and break it before the child has a chance to call anyone.

Children should not be left to walk alone. Whatever happened to the buddy system? When I was a kid, I walked to school with a friend and our parents gave us whistles that we kept around our necks. Thats right, a whistle. If we ever felt like we were in danger, we would blow our whistles and scream for help. It never failed to catch the attention of anyone near us and someone would always come help us.

Parents shouldnt depend on a cell-phones to ensure their childrens safety. Phones can break, batteries drain, they can easily be taken away, etc. If a child doesn't have a trusted adult or friend to walk with, than they have no business going alone.
