This is quite a hard question but maybe the slim is better. it doesnt overheat a much as the fat not saying the fat overheats to much. its cheaper, lighter, smaller and easy to transport and they WONT get fingerprints. however the fat is good too. the older versions(20, 60etc) of the fat have backwards compatibility 4usb ports and in terms of looks: they look awesome. So its up to you
The narrow is obviously slimmer and lighter. this is a few distance extra quiet than the fat and the fat gets warm and is loud after an hour. besides the undeniable fact that, the narrow remains quiet after a pair hours of gaming mutually as the fat is screaming. The narrow in simple terms has 2 usbs mutually as particular fat ones have 4. the advantages of the fat is a better layout, yet is a fingerprint and dirt magnet. The narrow has a matte end so no dirt or fingerprints. If staring at paying for a great narrow that one is even slimmer and lighter than the narrow. besides the undeniable fact that, this is bit louder than the unique narrow, yet no longer as loud because of fact the fat. additionally the excellent narrow extra HDD area (250gb and 500gb fashions) than the narrow (160gb & 320gb fashions). mutually as the fat has in simple terms 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, and 80gb refurb fashions.
The PS3 slim is more upgraded. It has better hardware. There's a different blu-ray drive in the slim PS3( a little better than the fat). The slim ps3 is HDMI 1.3b, 1.3b1, and 1.3c compliant. The fat PS3 isn't. The slim ps3 is able to output bit stream Dolby TrueHD. It streams 5.1 and 7.1. The fat PS3 can't do that either.
The fat may not heat up as much but the slim has a better cooling system. The slim would last a lot longer. The fat doesn't heat up as much but the slim won't overheat and can handle the heat better do to its hardware. Sony tested the slim so it wouldn't overheat. The fat PS3 has holes on the side for the overheat reasons.
The power consumption many people really don't care but the slim takes less power. The fat is only 30/watts more an hour. The slim has a bigger hard drive 120, 180, 320 Gigabytes. But if you know how to change the hard drive you can change it yourself. Make it a terabyte if you want.
The fat PS3 the buttons such as the on button is touch sensitive while the slim PS3 it isn't. mainly it depends on what you want. I currently have a PS3 slim. My friend had a ps3 fat but that burned out and now has a slim and says that is way better.
It depends on your needs. The PS3 Slim runs more efficiently and thus is cooler and more energy efficient. It is also lighter and more compact. It however does not support PS2 game emulation like certain models of the PS3 fat. The PS3 Fat also supports installation of third party operating systems such as Linux - if it is running firmware V3.21 or later it no longer supports third party OS's, also keep in mind that it is necessary to be running the latest firmware in order to connect to PSN - I personally don't play PS2 games anymore or run Linux on the PS3. I have a dedicated PS2 and computer for those things. The PS3 fat also has memory expansion slots for various memory cards and some models come with 4 USB 2.0 ports. Some cons of the PS3 Fat include bulk, and fan noise.
It depend on which PS3 fat. Most of them are backwards compatible with most PS2 games.
It should be noted that all PS3 consoles are backwards compatible with PS1 games.
However PS3 Slimline tend to overheat easier than PS3, but they have more memory. Although, they do not have a multimedia hub (aka multiple media cards like SD, and Magic Gate etc.) and tend to only have 1 or 2 USB hubs, where most PS3 fats have 2-4 USB and a 7-card reader.
