Homes in the upstate New York area?

I live in Westchester NY but I really want to buy a house a little more up state, maybe in like the Poughkeepsie, Newport, Chester area. I’m not sure which town, I would just like some place with a big yard and a nice size house. I only want to move a hour to a hour and a half away not as far as Albany at all . Any suggestions from people who knows that area. And also are there tours of homes around their maybe I can take.

Kingston, Saugerties, Hurley, Highland, Marlboro, New Paltz, Rondout Valley, Wallkill - you will find that places in Ulster County, on the west bank of the Hudson, are cheaper than the east bank (Dutchess Co.)- Rhinecliff, Rhinebeck, Germantown, Tivoli, Annandale, etc.. You can easily get across the Kingston-Rhinecliff bridge to see what both sides have to offer; you can take MetroNorth down to the city from Poughkeepsie, or Amtrak ($$) down from Rhinecliff.

You need t move a little further north than you think, to get good value in housing, and that big yard that you crave - and a LOT less noise.
