句子中出現的四個 number,
第一個number 要加 s, 我大致上都feel 到點解。因為每個人prefers 的number, 即係好多number, 所以加 s.
第二、三、四個， 佢地前面都有 their , 但為何只有第四個number 才要加s呢？

大家各擁有不同的電話號碼，當然可用複數形numbers，所以第二，亖也可以改為numbers；但英文在這情況下，也會有時用單數形，以下是來自《征服英語》的一篇資料問： Existing passports will remain valid until their date of expiry（現有的護照，期滿之前仍然有效）這一句， date是不是應改為 dates？
答：眾人各有一件的東西，一般會用複數形式，但有時也會用單數，例如：（ 1） We removed our hats when the band started playing the national anthem（樂隊奏起國歌，我們都脫下帽子）。（ 2） We all have families/ a family to feed（我們都要贍養家庭）。讀者說的那一句，同樣用 dates或 date都可以。

第一個number係指電話號碼數字既組合,例如:61231234,91234567,易記既組合可以有好多,所以一定要+s.
第二個同第三個number係指都係電話號碼組合,而文中指的係眾人當中每個人的手機or傳呼機既組合都好似佢地既出生日子,所以唔會+s.
第四個number係指純粹數字,文中意思係每個人都會大2佢地認為lucky既數字(唔一定得一個),而堅持加個d數字係佢地既phone number入面,所以要+s.
其實+唔+s唔係單單睇pronoun,要睇埋meaning先可以下判斷,唔係好易會錯.

phone number 可以解電話號碼 or 電話入面既數字
第2同第3個係因為每人得一個電話號碼 例如9876 4521
而最後個個numbers係同電話入面既數字
有關 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 5, 2, 1

因為第2和第3 個 'number' 是指大多數人他們自己獨立的號碼, 主體是號碼, 所以是單數, 不用加 s. 但第4個'number' 的主體是' some customers' 指很多人的號碼. 是眾數, 所有要加 s.
