Table salt is made of sodium and one other element (NaCl) Na is sodium.

Some people have problems with blood pressure, or other coronary problems. I don't add salt to my food because of my doctors recommendation. If you are young and healthy, without heart problems, don't worry about it. Cut down on salt, if you want to. You might need to when you reach middle age.

Na = Sodium

NaCl = salt, so yes, salt contains a lot of sodium. If you need to cut back on sodium, cutting out salt will help.

If you're talking about dietary sodium there are lots of sources other than standard table salt. Example: Celery is extremely high in sodium in it's natural state.
Sodium Chloride, Sodium Nitrite, Sodium Nitrate, Sodium Perchlorate....blah blah blah.
There are tons of sodium based chemical additives (most of them used as preservatives) in processed foods, especially processed meats like hot dogs and lunch meats; but it's in crackers and fruit products too so don't be fooled.
Cutting down on sodium in your diet is a healthy move but not so easy. Most people who achieve a diet that fits the recommended guidelines have had a life-threatening event that has motivated them to both the level of label-reading effort and the putting-up-with-bland-tasting-food effort to keep from ending up dead.
Two teaspoons of total sodium is the recommendation. Think you can keep it to that?

sodium is a alkali metal, it is very reactive,

the compound sodium chloride is the salt we humans consume,

the body breaks it down to cl and Na and to much sodium is bad,

so yes stay away from sodium but its not a salt.

Sodium is salt. I do not know if you should cut down. Maybe if you have high blood pressure.

I work in a deli and our lower sodium cheese is made with sea salt and our S.Lee low sodium turkey is flavored with paparika so maybe switch to a different kind of seasoning. I think mrs. dash has LS seasonings too. more products are lowering sodium lately so look close at labels next time your shopping.

Not exactly. Table salt is 40% sodium and and 60% Chloride. Sodium is one of the things found in salt. I don't know if this helps, but an average person consumes 2,300 mg.per day.
