A gaseous mixture consists of methanegas(CH4) and ethane gas(C2H6) in a mole ratio of 1:1. It has avolume of 200cm^3 at room condition. What is the volume of oxygen required forthe complete combustion of the mixture? (Hints:methane and ethane will form CO2 and H2O during complete combustion) (Allvolume measured at room conditions)

Volume of CH4 = Volume of C2H6 = 200 x (1/2) =100 cm³

CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O
Volume of O2 reacted with CH4 = 100 x 2 = 200 cm³

2C2H6 + 7O2 → 4CO2+ 6H2O
Volume of O2 reacted with C2H6 = 100 x (7/2) =350 cm³

Total volume of O2 needed = 200 + 350 = 550cm³
