Answer is they didn't...there were a small group of people who took things like molotov cocktails and lighter fluid with them downtown-these people were bent on stirring up **** no matter what the outcome of the game was-and since you mention the WTO deal in Seattle,if you look at the pics online from the area where/when the Vanny riot started you'd see the pics of groups of people clad in black(the same anarchists/nutjobs some of whom were probably in Seattle back then)Of course once it started if you have enough drunken people running around there will be some that will join in-many of the people that were in the streets weren't at the game-they were just in Vancouver because that's where the "party" was-so basically every loser/idiot west of Winnipeg was in downtown Vancouver that night.(the moron who set the first police car on fire was from Yellowknife,NWT-there are several pics of him doing it AND he was stupid enough to brag about it on facebook).I see your nic is Willamette so I'm guessing you live around /south of Portland-I was reading some comments on the KATU news website about it the other day and the article suggested it was "because the Canucks lost"-it wasn't,and it's not representative of the people in the area in general-no news agency anywhere outside of Canada mentions the fact that 12 THOUSAND real Canucks fans showed up the next day downtown to help clean up the damage caused by a couple hundred or so jackasses.
