Reaction between ammonium chloride and calcium hydroxide

The equation for this reaction is:
2NH4Cl(s) + Ca(OH)2(s) → CaCl2(s) + 2NH3(g) + 2H2O(l)

I don't understand why these two solid can react with each other in solid state.
Also, I don't understand why calcium chloride formed is in solid state, not dissolved in water formed and become aqueous solution.

if the original reactants are in solid state, a product in solid would be expected.
since you cant create liquid out of nowhere, it would explain the solid + solid = solid reaction.

also the two solids could have been heated, so that they could react with each other in solid state! :)

Generally speaking two solids can not react. In this case the two solids can react because ammonium chloride is sublimate. With heat, it becomes gas, and hence the reaction happens.

We are heating it. The temperature of the reaction is high. so we don't get an aqueous solution at the end.

Barium hydroxide is the precipitate in the reaction. 2NaOH + BaCl2 --> Ba(OH)2(s) + 2NaCl If you write the net ionic, it shows the formation of solid barium hydroxide from its ions, Ba+2 and OH-.

Calcium chloride is a solid at room temperature and is not water soluble (it is actually used as a drying agent in organic chemistry to remove water from organic solutions). Check your solubility rules.

As for why the two solids react? I would say either they are in a solvent which is not listed or they are just reactive enough to do so.
