So far I have tried the answer r = S - Sa, and that was wrong I don't really understand this at all!!!!

Divide both sides by S:

a/S = 1 - R

Multiply both sides by -1, and switch the equation

R - 1 = -a/S

Add 1 to both sides

R = 1 - a/s

You need to take the S out of both parts of the right hand side of the equation. So.

a = S(1 - r)

a/S = 1 - r

- r = a/S -1

r = 1 - a/S

a = S − Sr
=> a = S(1 - r)
=> a/S = 1 - r
=> r = 1 - (a/S) ............(1)
=> r = (S - a)/S ............ (2)

Either one of (1) and (2) should do.

add Sr to both sides then subtract a from both sides then divide both sides by S

r=(S-a)/S

Sr = S - a

thus r = (S - a) / S
or
r = 1 - (a / S)

pardon me for asking, but where is the 1 come from?
