can some1 explain to me how to get the answer? I can't understand the solution. thanks

my textbook also states that d(a^x)/dy = a^x In a, and d(loga x)/dy = 1(x In a). But in exam do I need to derive the fact before like what you've done or is it ok to write what the solution I posted?

You should be familiar with chain rule, and the formula for differentiating a^x and log_a x

I don't know what exam you will sit, but I suggest that these formula can be used without proof.
