某一個adjective 後面, 應該使用什麼preposition. Depend on 哪個adjective.大多數要死記. 例如 afraid,後面preposition 一定用 of.
英語有太多Sentence patterns,只是列出數種類. 一本好字典有列出例子和collocation.

ADJECTIVE PATTERNS

Adjective + of

afraid of, ashamed of, aware of, beware of, capable of, confident of, conscious of, envious of, fond of, frightened of, full of, guilty of, incapable of, innocent of, nervous of, proud of, rid of, scared of, short of, sick of, suspicious of, terrified of, tired of, typical of, unaware of, unconscious of

Adjective + for

anxious for, bad for, boatful for, eager for, eligible for, famous for, fit for, good for, known for, late for, notorious for, prepared for, qualified for, ready for, remembered for, respectful for, responsible for, suitable for, thankful for

Sentence patterns:
It + is + adjective + for + noun/pronoun/noun phrase.
Noun/noun phrase + is + adjective + for + noun/pronoun/noun phrase.

It is easy for you.
Riding a bicycle is easy for you.
Doing physical exercise every day is good for your health.

It + be + adjective + (for + noun/pronoun/noun phrase) + to + verb
It + be + adjective + (of + noun/pronoun/noun phrase) + to + verb

It is easy to break into this house.
It is easy for a thief to break into this house.
This house is easy for a thief to break into.

It is easy for you to speak French.
It is important (for a witness) to speak the truth.

It is nice / kind / good / stupid / silly / intelligent / clever / sensible / (im)polite / rude / unreasonable / generous OF someone (to do something):

It is kind of you to help us.
It is very rude of you to insult your teacher.

It + be + adjective + OF or FOR + noun/pronoun/noun phrase + to + verb

幾時用for..., 幾時用of...??

當表示 : 爲咗...../ 給予.....時就用for.
例 : This money is for you. ( which is that you earned.)



當表示 : 有關...../ 屬於.....時就用of .

This money is of you. ( which is your payment.)


用那一的preposition , 只是意思不同. 要看你想要表達什麼.

It is for Mary so do not touch it.

This dress is for Mary but not for you.

The preparation for the party will be finished in an hour.

Would you please take care of my grandmother for me when I go to Taiwan next week? = would you please take care of my grandmother on my behalf when I go to Taiwan next week.

He comes home late for he has gone to the library on his way home. = He comes home late because he has gone to the library on his way home.

The door of the church is broken.
The window of the house is also broken.
Nurses take good care of the patients.
He is standing in front of the window.
It is none of our business so we'd better keep quiet.
