any other 一問

請問any other後的名詞使唔使+s?

這個問題可以分兩部分來說:

any
1. 表示任何量(有疑問/否定意義), 後面的noun是plural 或uncountable.
2. 表示任一(哪一個並不重要). 後面的noun是singular
You can take any pen you like.
3. 表示每. 後面的noun是singular/plural/uncountable

other
1.表示二者的另一, 後面是singular. (前面會有 the, his等表示指的定詞)
He held the bags with one arm only. His other arm was hurt.
2.表示額外的其他, 後面是plural. (singular 用 another)
3.表示其餘. 後面的noun是singular/plural/uncountable

句1. I am taller than any other student in my class. 我比班中其餘學生都高.
以上句的any是每的意思,而other是其他之意思, 所以應該用plural.
句2的文意有點不明白, 但似乎也是每個其他之意, 所以也應用plural.

如果any other 後面是singular, 則意思是其餘的任一, 例如:
This table is reserved. Please choose any other table you like. 請選擇其餘的任何一張桌.

如果any other 後面是singular, 其實通常用another 就可以了.
