We use the present simple to describe things that happen on a regular basis.
2. Tom has not written a letter for many years.
We use the present perfect simple to talk about the states that started in the past and are still continuing in the present. We often use the prepositions for (+ period of time) and since (+ point in time)
He has lived in Canada for twenty years/since 1990.
The present perfect form of the verb phrase:
have or has + past participle.
For third person singular, He/She/Peter/Mary + has + past participle.
“written” is the past participle of “write”.
3. I will speak to you later.
We can use will + infinitive (the future simple) to talk about a decision made at a time of speaking. We also use shall with I and we, though this is becoming dated now.
