- 5 ^5 = (-1 ^5 )(5^5 ) ~ wrong

The correct way is:
-5^5 = (-1)(5)^5 ~ correct
= (-1)(3125) = -3125

(-5)^5 = (-1)^5(5)^5 ~ correct

If you have a minus sign without bracket, the answer is always negative.

; It works if the index is odd, not for even number
- 5 ^5 = (-1 ^5 )(5^5 ) = (-1) (+3125) = -3125

Please note that: -5^4 is not equal to (-1)^4(5)^4
-5^4 = (-1)(5)^4 = -625
