what is the meaning of doing work

my book state that doing work can increase the internal energy of a body.

Doing work simply means to transfer some energy (by you) to something(e.g. a wood)

Drilling the wood to make fire is one example of doing work.

Rubbing hardly on the surface of an object is an example for raising its temperature by "doing work".
