I am now the students of Econ / Hist, but I am the teacher and many of my students are now taking NSS with some headache decision making like you. I can share my opinions here for your reference:
1) Hang Seng School of Commerce has not opened 334 programme, so there will have NO competition from their students in HKDSE. Its new development direction is to open private university programme instead.
2) You have not mentioned the third subject and I cannot compare their relationships. But I can say Econ. has definitely more related programmes in University like BBA and Social Science. The acquisition of good result from it can benefit your chance of application in JUPAS.
3) Your problem in Econ is you cannot digest the materials ( i.e. not real understanding ) and so you cannot apply the concepts properly on those seemingly practical problems. This is closely related to your talent and potential, for sure. You should consult your Econ teacher shortly how to improve your study skills.
4) Hist. DBQ is a disaster to many students for it is hard to attempt. But Hist. is a subject now that does not rely simply on memorization, but how to present the arguments systematically, which look like L.S.! If you can have a suitable mind-map relating all concepts together for clear comparison, you can study well.
5) In any case, when one subject has problem, consult the subject teacher for solutions. But I do not encourage you dropping a subject now. It is too late and a waste if you have studied 2 years there. The effort will have no reward then.
Hope I can help you.
