Would you consider Tampa Bay Rays to be a World Series contender this year or no?

I am a Rays fan and have been since they were a team. However, people give me funny looks when I say I think they have an actual chance this year. What do you think?

Absolutely! As long as any time is not mathematically out of it, they have to be considered a contender. The Rays are better than people think. This kid, Fuld has been a really bright spot in their line up. The AL East is up for grabs.

As a fellow Rays fan I believe so.

We saw Alex Cobb last night for the first time, didn't dazzle, but hey, it was his first start!

We'll get Longoria back soon and now we know we have alot of valuable bench players that can step up and Joyce is a monster as of late.

What's key is Davis is pitching great, same with Niemann, Shields and Price, we need a little more out of Hellickson.

Farnsworth is doing great. I think at the deadline we need to acquire a quality reliever, lefty preferably.

We'll see.

I have the Rays finishing in 2nd place with a 91-71 record.

Possibly. They started off the season pretty bad but have built their way up. I see them in second place this year.

Yes I do believe they have a chance. They did not start out well but now they are doing so much better! The legend of Sam Fuld :)

No, I wouldn't think so. The Tampa Bay Rays will not going to be in the playoffs.

I think so. and they started off bad but really came around even before the red sox who have the better lineup. and they will become even better now that Longloria is back. and last season in the playoffs they did not do so well but now they have Damon who is a good clutch hitter and has viable experiance in both the playoffs and WS and knows the AL East well.

They have a chance and surprised a lot of people thus far. If they keep this up I don't know about the world series but they're like the yankees right now who have really surprised me. They can go deep in the playoffs. But you never know the AL east is the toughest race in all of baseball. The Red sox are going to come back from the dead and it's going to be a tight race!

Firstly, I do not think they have a shot at the WS. Realistically, after a slow start, they are 2 games over .500...

At this point in time, they are a dark horse longshot for a Wild Card. That is based on Boston's poor performance and very poor play in the AL Central. But it also means Boston would have to continue playing badly, and either the Angels or Rangers should not win 90 games or more...and if that happens, you also have to consider Oakland.

Tampa will have key head to head games with Boston and NY...they would have to break even (minimum) in those games....or even beat those clubs in the seasonal series.

That's why it's a longshot, but it could happen.

I think they actually do have a chance. Before when they were like 0-7 I was like nah they dont stand a chance, but they're actually doing okay now, they just need to step it up. I think they only did bad because they haven't adjusted to the fact that theres no more pena, garza, crawford, etc. The Rays are like a middle team to me, they usually do good just good. Like i said they need to step it up a bit more.

Its early but I think they have a chance as long as they are In the playoffs and they will be fine the rangers a better chance then the rays.
