✔ 最佳答案
1. No reaction with water.
- Reaction with dilute HNO3 (forming NO gas);
conc. HNO3 (forming NO2 gas);
conc. H2SO4 (forming pungent SO2 gas)
- Reaction with NaOH --> forming white ppt.
2. It is basic in nature.
3. Br- in MgBr2 is a strong reducing agent.

Reaction with dilute HNO3:
2NO3^- + 3Br^- + 8H+ ---> 2NO + 3Br2 + 4H2O
Colourless NO gas is evolved, (which can further react with oxygen in air to form brown NO2 gas). And the solution turns from colourless to brown.

Reaction with conc HNO3:
2NO3^- + 2Br- + 8H+ ---> NO2 + Br2 + 4H2O
Brown NO2 gas is evolved. And the solution turns from colourless to brown.

Reaction with conc H2SO4:
H2SO4 + 2Br- + 4H+ ---> SO2 + Br2 + 2H2O
Pungent SO2 gas is evolved. And the solution turns from colourless to brown.

I know that dilute nitric acid has oxidizing property which can be reduced to colorless NO gas by strong reducing agent, like Br-. But the actual value of cell potential is unknown to me.
