Theme: The Tempest is a story about love, revenge, and greed. Set on a mythical island, Prospero comes up with a plan to avenge a disservice that has been done to him, reclaim the title his brother stole, and in the process help his beautiful daughter find true love. Through the use of magic and spirit servants, Prospero also uncovers plots to kill the king and himself. The story is less focused on the love story, and more on the plots of murder, and Prospero's plot to avenge himself. Key Events: Act 1 Scene 1:- The storm at sea shipwrecks the King’s (Alonso) vessel. Act 1 Scene 2:- Prospero and Miranda talk about their lives together – over the past 12 years, how they came to the island, that Prospero is really the Duke of Milan, that she’s really a princess.- Miranda and Ferdinand fall in love. Act 2 Scene 1:- Antonio urges Sebastian to overthrow his father, Alonso Act 3 Scene 1- Ferdinand and Miranda agree that they will marry. Act 3 Scene 2- Stephano plots against Prospero. Act 4 Scene 1:Prospero explains to Ferdinand why he has to complete the tasks and how his reward is the ‘rich gift’ of Miranda. Act 5 Scene 1- Prospero calmly tells the prisoners of the injustices he has suffered – he even forgives his brother.- Prospero reveals himself dressed as the Duke of Milan.- Prospero will have his kingdom back and the marriage of Ferdinand/Miranda will reunite Milan and Naples.
