A.) Yes. However, in fairness to the other 15 teams in the playoffs, the Red Wings must play each games and consequently beat each opponent. It's basically a formality the NHL put in place to make the playoffs seem like everyone has a chance at winning. It helps view rating and ticket sells if the NHL can make fans believe their team has a shot against the Red Wings. Same thing goes for why the NHL season is 82 games long, so other teams appear to have a chance, thus their fans can build up hype (i.e. the Chicago Blackhawks)
