Fake Crab Meat = Imitation Crab, and is a blended mixture of other processed fish, known as surimi. It's also much cheaper than pure crab meat, as that is way too expensive.So, it's like Taco Bell. Their meat is just a blended mixture of a billion types of god-knows-what-animals-it-came-from beef, that somehow tastes delicious and makes the USA morbidly obese.

Crab meat is pricey and what they make it with is a fish called Alaska Pollock. It is cheap and doesn't have a lot of taste so they can add flavoring to it to make it taste like crab.

Because it is alot less expensive to make it and to put it on the shelves that way.

It's made of pollock usually and it's a fraction of the cost of real crab meat but tastes very similar.

Unless you live close to east coast or the gulf coast crab is just very expensive. BP had nothing to do with it, we are gettting some of the best crabs ever here in Louisiana and frankly, I hope the rest of the country continues to avoid louisiana seafood, because we are getting it crazy cheap and the Number 1 crabs that are normally sent away from us, we are getting them for ourselves!! Yummilicious!!

first off, get ready to never eat imitation crab ever again....
its usually made of all the crap leftover at the end of the fish processing line which can vary between lots of different fishes... then its all mushed up into a paste or made into crab meat....
and they do it to not waste the leftovers and also because its cheap

The BP oil spill probably has something to do with it. Don't know what they're made of.
