Pls explain why metals......

Please explain why metals are good conductors of heat in terms of motion of particles

My textbook stated "metals have free electrons...."

Actually,I want a more detail answer, and I am confused with electrons..

Is there any electrons in non-metal?
更新1:

維基: 若物體帶有的電子多於或少於原子核的電量,導致正負電量不平衡時,稱該物體帶靜電 我唔係好明呢一句..可唔可以解釋下?俾d examples?

It has been found that electrons are the main component responsible for heat conduction. They help to transfer the thermal vibration of molecules from one end of a material to the other end.

The higher the temperature, the more vigorous is the vibration of molecules. Since free electrons in metals have great mobility, the molecular vibrations are transmited to these free electrons, which transfer such vibrations rapidly by colliding with other electrons and molecules. This is heat transfer by conduction.

Non-metals have very few free electrons. Without the help of free electrons, molecular vibration on one end of a substance could not be transmitted to the other end rapidly. Such vibrations could only be transmitted by molecular collision, which is much slower than that transmitted by free electrons.
