transportation與transport的分別?

Transport指交通工具
如public transport
但也可寫public transportation
(你想在一篇文章裏混用transport或transportation也是可以的。不過人們的習慣多數是但用一個，不過混用都係冇乜影響既。如果想有趣d，可以兩個都混用。如果想正式d，就最好剩係用一個。

英文仲有唔少類似例子，例如tape measure同measuring tape，colour同color，串法不同，但意思極為相似。

Transport亦可做動詞
這時就不可用transportation代替了，因為transportation睇落去都知呢個係名詞黎。

transport和transportation都不是運輸公司，
transport/transportation(n.)是交通系統那種運輸，又或是交通工具的公司才會用transport/transportation這詞作為公司名。不是把東西由一個地方運去另一個地方的運輸，近代或叫物流logistics。

transport(v.)為動詞才是把一件東西由一個地方送往另一個地方。The MTR transports large amount of peopole effectively in most mega cities.

如果你用xx transportation co.可能會被誤會為運輸車輛公司。如果正是一間租賃各類車輛(貨車/七人車/巴士)或交通公具(包括車船)作運輸用途的公司還是不錯的。

可能我想多了，但一般「運輸」貨品的公司都以推崇為，xx logistics co.或xx delivery service co.

運輸服務是一個範圍很廣的行業。在香港“transport service”和 “transportation service”都可以使用。不過，“delivery service”(＝送貨服務) 或“logistics service”(＝物流服務) 都是常用的。
你選用哪一個名目，理應取決於你的市場營銷策略。

在美國. 加拿大, 多數使用 ”transportation service”. 尤其是運輸貨物. Americans tend to use "transportation", while the British usually use "transport". They are both correct. It's not an error if you use either one. People on both sides of Atlantic will understand what you mean.
e.g. public transport (British), public transportation (American)

Transportation is a noun. Transport can be a noun as well as a verb.

As a noun, transportation and transport are used interchangeably nowadays. The only exception is:
penal transportation (not penal transport). It refers to the shipping of criminals from Britain to penal colonies in Australia. (in the old days) In British English, "transportation" generally refers to the carriage of goods.

我只集中 transport 與 transportation 之別. 使用什麼字, 要看運輸什麼, transportation (transport) service普遍地是規模大, 尤其省過省, 我亦見過一人operate校巴, 或載輪椅病人稱transportation service,運包裹, 信之類, 用delivery service 或者courier service. 搬屋, 用Moving Co, mover, moving service. 如果是一隊卡車,貨車,trucking Co., freight shipping Co.
