What's the different between "hit the road" & "hit the street"?

Sorta-kinda like "Hit the road Jack and don't come back no mo."
That is to say, "Get lost."

"Hit the street, you guys."
That is to say, "Get to work." or "Get back to work."

Great question! "Hit the road" means to leave where ever you are. "Hit the street" is something, I, as a salesman would do. "Time to 'hit the street' and round up some business". If I'm really motivated I would 'hit the street" AND "beat some bushes"... that would really scare up some business.
