what is the best brand of bedding for my hamster should i get?

TFM has a list of the pros and cons of the different bedding. It is a mouse forum, but bedding will be the same for all rodents. Also, we have a hamster and rat, too, not just mice, so I use it for all of them. The link is as follows:

I personally like the CareFresh Ultra. It wicks fast and controls odor very nicely. Also, since it is white in color, it makes the nightly spot cleanings a snap. It is pricey, true, but I get it on-line at Pet-Co when they have sales. Shipping is free with a minimum order purchase ($50 usually) , but with so many cages to do each week, I stock up so it is not a problem. Last time I ordered, I paid around $14.50 for a 50L bag whereas at the store it would have cost about $28 for the 50L bag.

I would like to add that the CareFresh Natural has improved the dust levels since the bedding comparison was done. It does have a certain smell to it, though, that you need to get used to. Some people cannot, but it does not bother me whenever we have used it. The Natural is cheaper than the Ultra, so something to keep in mind.

Care-sparkling (the cottony one) is great. yet another type (in case you opt for to apply wood) is Kaytee. verify to stay far off from cedar bedding. This type, for my section is great, yet a splash messy to bathe. The shavings flow each and every the place lol.

I would say CareFresh Ultra, great for odour control and not that expensive.

Don't get pine. I have had two hamsters show allergic reactions to it...

The best, like everything, is often expensive. It's called carefresh. It's the softest there is, it's plant-based, so it's biodegradable, and it won't irritate their delicate respiratory system. It's also comes in a variety of colours. It generally runs about $30 for the biggest block. This usually lasts me 2 or 3 months. If you want something more economical, use aspen shavings or another big brand of hamster bedding. It's really your preference. However, don't use pine or cedar shaving, as previously stated. The perfume hurts their respiratory system.

The best type of good quality bedding is Carefresh. Its a bit pricey 10 liters for 10 dollar, thats pratically a dollar a litter. But i manage to make it through a month. What i like about it is how it has different variety, such as Carefresh colors, bedding that comes in blue purple yellow, Carefresh Natural, bedding made from all natural material, and Carefresh Ultra for extra obsurbancy ( sorry if I spelled it wrong). As you can see it is pretty good, but if you dont always have the money to buy it, like i said pricey, then only buy aspen bedding. But make sure you have a type of bedding like Carefrsh to put where it sleep so the wood wont be disturbing. Do not ever get pine or cedar, pine is too aromatic and oily and ceadar is too but in addition is splintery :(. Isnt that uncomfortable. Well good luck with the bedding and your future hamster :D .

I heard not to use wood shavings bedding. I used it for my hamster. He was allergic to it. i heard this is true for many other rodents as well. i would use "Carefresh", or some type of bedding like that. it doesn't stink up as fast, is easier to clean, plus you just avoid any allergies the rodent might have to wood shavings. All my other types of rodents seemed to like "Carefresh" bedding much better. :) I hoped i could help!

I don't know about brands, but bedding made of shredded aspen wood is great for small animals. Cedar and pine shavings can irritate their lungs. Aspen is very absorbent and helps neutralize odors better than corncob or paper bedding does.
