Some problems with 'tn' sound (urgent)?

I would like to know how to pronounce the 'tn' sound. Someone told me that the phonetic symbol for tan, ten, and ton at the back of the word when it is unstressed is 'tn', instead of 't(inverted e)n', and one shouldn't let any air out of one's mouth when enunciating that 'tn' sound. Can someone briefly explain this to me? Or give me some links/vid about this?

thanks
更新1:

But I have checked a few dictionaries, and the phonetic symbol for those words is really 'tn', no vowels between 't', and 'n'.

更新2:

Or some dictionaries show a smaller 'inverted e' at the top right corner of 't'. Are there any differences between 'tn' / 't(smaller inverted e)n' and 't(inverted e)n'?

Rubbish... you have to pronounce the vowels otherwise people won't know which one you mean...

t-e-n is different from t-a-n is different from t-o-n.

That person was talking through his arse.
