Question 1:
Set A: 8, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 15, 18 (range-10)
Set B: 7, 6, 4, 9, 10, 20, 27, 26, 25 (range-23) Q1a) Find the inter-quartile range of Set A and B. Q1b) Which set of data is more dispersed? Why? Question 2: Given that 3 numbers x, y and 20, where x<y. The mean is 20 and the mean deviation is 6. Q2a) Show that y-x = 18 PLEASE SHOW ALL WORKINGS FOR Q1 and Q2.

Question 1

Rearrange B as 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 20, 25, 26, 27

1a) IQ Range of Set A = 15 - 8.5 = 6.5IQ Range of Set B = 25.5 - 6.5 = 19

1b) B is more dispersed for it has higher IQ Range and Range

Question 2

20 = Mean = ( x + 20 + y ) / 3

x + y + 20 = 60

x + y = 40 -------------- (1) 6 = Mean Deviation = [ ( 20 - x ) + ( 20 - 20 ) + ( y - 20 ) ] / 3

y - x = 18 ------------- (2)

Solve (1)(2), we have ( x, y ) = ( 11, 29 )

y - x = 18 has been shown in ------------(2)
