refracting telescope

When an astronomical refracting telescope is adjusted to view a distant object under normal adjustment. If part of the objective is blocked by an opaque obstacle, the final image can still be viewed. Why?

An astronomical telescope is designed to view very distant object, such as heavenly bodies. The light rays entering the objectives are about parallel.

Blocking part of the objective would result as if an objective of smaller area is used, the rays could still form an image, only with less brightness.
