We should refer to the dollowing website first:
http://member.hkjc.com/big5/others/membership.asp
According to the documents, one can become the racing member of HK Jockey club ( the lowest rank in membership ) if:
1) Candidate for Racing Membership must be proposed by a resident Honorary Steward, Honorary Voting Member or Voting Member of the Club. The application forms for Racing Membership are available from them.
2) The application must be seconded by another resident Honorary Steward, Honorary Voting Member or Voting Member of the Club. Candidate must also be supported by three Club Members.
3) Proposers, Seconders and Supporting Members must know their candidates well and be satisfied that the candidates are persons of integrity before agreeing to sponsor their candidates.
The entrance fee for a racing membership is HKD 68,000 , which cannot be afforded except a wealthy person. He can also possess the right for application of thw ownership of racehorses, and the cost of a highly rated racehorse can be up to HKD 5M! This is a astromical digit to even the middle class.
On the other hand, whether the racehorse can perform excellently or not is another story. After successful application as a racehorse owner, he/she needs to select a suitable and reliable trainer, and also his high monthly training fee. And he/she also needs to buy insurance for the racehorse so that if the horse has any health problems or injurred the legs before race, the cost can be reduced.
Hence, before being a racehorse owner, I think the right candidate should
1) really love the horse and enjoy seeing its growth,
2) does not treat it as a business, but appreciate the process,
3) has the aim to help developinh HK racehorse market,
3) bear the social responsibility in regular dontation to the charity organizations.
Aaron has a lot to learn, in my opinion.
Hope I can answer the question clearly.
