兩個verb的問題

岩岩睇報道既時候見到有句咁既野
But the Bank of England believes that inflation will then subside as spare capacity opened up in the recession bears down on prices.
我想知為何有2個verb?

opened up 唔係verb黎, 佢係present participle, 而present paticiple係adj.
係呢句句子既bears先係verb

present participle:
eg. The girl wearing sunglasses (adj.) is (verb) my sister.

其中既wearing唔係verb, 係adj., 係形容緊個girl, 而is先係呢句句子既verb

而present participle可以變番做:
eg. The girl who is wearing sunglasses is my sister.

I agree with 001 Jasmine's answer, but would like to supplment that "opened" up is a past participle, acting as an adjective (verbal). "opening" up is a present participle that can also act as an adjective.
