well, i bet there IS reaction.
calcium oxide is a strong base.
now, think of reaction between chlorine and strong base...
sodium hydroxide + chlorine
------> sodium chloride + sodium hypochlorite + water
2NaOH + Cl2 ------> NaCl + NaOCl + H2O
there's disproportionation reaction, turning elemental chlorine into chloride (ON = -1) and hypochlorite (ON of Cl = +1).
now, if sodium hydroxide is replaced by calcium hydroxide...
2Ca(OH)2 + 2Cl2 ------> Ca(OCl)2 + CaCl2 + 2H2O
calcium hypochlorite and calcium chloride and water are produced.
and, calcium hydroxide is made from calcium oxide and water:
2CaO + 2H2O ------> 2Ca(OH)2 (i leave the coefficient 2 for easy comparision)
now, combine these two...
2H2O + 2CaO+ 2Cl2
------> 2Ca(OH)2 + 2Cl2
------> 2H2O + Ca(OCl)2 + CaCl2
canceling the water, we have
2CaO + 2Cl2 ------> CaCl2 + Ca(OCl)2
thus, calcium oxide and chlorine actually reacts to form calciium chloride, CaCl2 , and calcium hypochlorite, Ca(OCl)2 .
clacium hypochlorite is also a strong oxidizing agent, sometimes used in sterilizing utensils in restaurants. it's quite soluble in water, and is isolable from aqueous solution, unlike sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach, cannot be evaporated to dryness). Chinese: 漂白粉.

哦? "there IS reaction" = 會發生反應.

雖然維基不是個嚴格可靠的資料來源, 但calcium hydroxide 和chlorine 的反應卻是有的;
sodium hydroxide 和chlorine 的反應更是會考化學就必讀.

what the heck is it related to reactivity series?
not everything are related to it, OK?
this's NOT displacement reaction; instead, it's more-or-less reaction between chlorine and soluble hydroxides:
Cl2 + 2OH(-) ------> Cl(-) + OCl(-) + H2O

so as long as the base is strong (usually soluble), reaction can take place.

hey, Na(OH)2 and Al(OH)2 ???
i hope it's just slippery fingers.
