1)
A = (1 - 40%)B = 0.6B

% tha B is greater than A
= [(B - A)/A] x 100%
= [(B - 0.6B)/0.6B] x 100%
= (66 and 2/3)%

2)
Let h be the number of students taking History, and g be the number of students taking Geography.

g = (1 + 50%)h = 1.5h

Percentage of students taking Geography
= [g/(g + h)] x 100%
= [1.5h/(1.5h + h)] x 100%
= 60%

3)
A = (1 - 36%)B = 0.64B

Percentage that B is greater than A
= [(B - A)/A] x 100%
= [(B - 0.64B)/0.64B] x 100%
= 56.3% (3 sig. fig.)

4)
Let r% be the reduction in consumption.

(1 + 25%)(1 - r%) = 100%
1 - r% = 20%
r = 80

The driver must reduce 80% of his consumption.

5)
Let 2k be the number of Chinese books, and 3k be the number of English books.

[(3k + 100)/(2k +3k + 100)] x 100% = 65%
[(3k + 100)/(5k + 100)] x 100% = 65%
300k + 10000 = 325k + 6500
25k = 3500
k = 140

Original number of books
= 2 x 140 + 3 x 140
= 700

Sorry, wrong typing for Question 4). It should be:

Let r% be the reduction in consumption.

(1 + 25%)(1 - r%) = 100%
1 - r% = 80%
r = 20

The driver must reduce 20% of his consumption.

the original price of petrol(x):
y be the time of driving:
x(1+25%)(1-y%)=x
1-y%=0.8
-y%=-0.2
y=20
___________
So,the driver must reduce the driving time by 20%
