It is called the intercept form.Prove :Let x intercept at (a , 0) , y intercept at (0 , b) The equation of this line can be find by two points form :(y - b) / (x - 0) = (b - 0) / (0 - a)bx = - a(y - b)bx + ay = ab(bx + ay) / (ab) = ab / (ab)x/a + y/b = 1Sub a = - 4 , b = 6 get :x/-4 +y/6 = 1
