Specific Latent heat of fusion is the Energy required to change the state of a matter from liquid to solid (or vice versa) per unit mass.
At melting point, when a specific amount of heat is being added to a matter in solid stage / taken from a matter in liquid stage, the energy, instead of going into motion of the molecules (increasing the vibration speed, or decreasing it)causing the temperature to increase / decrease, it goes into the bonds between the molecules. It either uses the energy to breaks bonds between solid molecules to allow molecules to move freely in the pool (changing solid into liquid), or absorb the energy from bond forming between liquid molecules (changing from liquid to solid).
The word Latent means "Hidden". The energy flowing in and out of the matter was not seen as increasing or decreasing the temperature, its effect was "hidden".
