It may be fundamental. But is it beneficial? There may be merit, but I think just the opposite. The world has lived by this theory for all too long. People need to learn to live with others, appreciate the diversity, and be tolerant of differences. Your old philosophy promotes old hatreds, continues ancient mistrust, and embroils all in unhealthy competition. We see theses basics worldwide. In the middle east... muslim killing muslim. In Europe Catholic Irish vs Protestant Irish. Basque vs Spanish. In Africa old tribal hatreds have led to mass genocide every decade since I was a young boy.
All of these groups have more in common than not. These old hatreds are not solved by secession. It continues it, it enables the differences to continue. I do not know why people cannot take a bigger picture and be an Irishman first, a catholic or protestant second. Put down the hatreds, put away the guns. Live with each other... build rather than destroy. Work together and not apart.
If a constitution is upheld by all. Then all can prosper in a diverse nation created by the union of all it citizens. As countries tear themselves apart to serve the separate interests of its various components, the nations become smaller, less economically powerful, and weaker in every way. A population is more likely to prosper from strength, and not weaknesses.
