Do I have to register for water service connection from City of Burnaby after buying a townhouse in Burnaby?

I didn't have my own realtor so I've nowhere to ask. Now I'm renting a place, not sure if I need to register for water service after buying a place (a townhouse in Burnaby, BC). I can't find this information on City of Burnaby website either. Thanks!

First you said you bought a place, and then you said you're renting. I'm confused. Let's assume you bought wherever it is you're asking about. When the property gets registered in your name after you buy it, the property tax and sewer and water charges get transferred into your name and the bills for those will arrive in late spring/early summer, payable by July 1st if you wish to avoid late payment charges. The charges for this year would have been all settled as part of the sale transaction, and will be on your statement of adjustments. At least, it has worked that way for the half-dozen places I've bought and sold in BC. You can always call Burnaby and ask on Monday.
